The world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia has 18,110 islands out of which only 6,000 are inhabited. It is the largest island country in the world and the largest country in South East Asia and is home to 240 million people. Due to it having the largest number of active volcanoes in the world, it is a part of the ‘Ring of Fire’. Its slogan ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ rings true with the tropical forests here being the second largest in the world after Brazil along with great shopping and partying. Sumatra, Java, Bali and Kalimantan are some of the largest islands in the country.

Tourism in Indonesia has two major components and those are nature and culture. It is a unique combination of a tropical climate, vast archipelago and long beaches all of which are complimented by a rich cultural heritage. Indonesia is known for its vibrant and colorful cuisine and has intense flavor. Due to more than 300 ethnic groups residing in the islands there are many regional cuisines. These cuisines are influenced by indigenous culture and influences from China, Europe, Middle East and India. Some of the most popular Indonesian dishes include Nasi Goreng, Gado-Gado, Sate and Soto. These are also considered as national dishes.

Indonesia has no seasons except for two, rainy and dry, and is generally a warm place. The dry season last from April until October and the wet season from November to March. Temperatures are cooler in the highlands and warrants a jacket if you are visiting, these include Mount Bromo on Java and Tana Toraja on Sulawesi.

When it comes to activities Indonesia is a great Scuba Diving destination, in fact its one of the best in the world making it a great tourist draw. Some great scuba diving spots include Bunaken in Northern Sulawesi, Wakatobi in South East Sulawesi and Raja Ampat. Spas are very popular here whether its in a simple hut or the more lavish wellness centres. There are options to suit any kind of budget. Travellers also visit for the amazing surfing especially at the Mentawai Islands off the west coast of Sumatra, Bali and Nusa Lembongan. Indonesia is a land that offers some of the greatest adventures on earth.
